Tucked away in the southern corner of Western Australia, the Porongurup wine region sits among ancient granite peaks, over a billion years old. About 50 kilometres northeast of Albany, Porongurup enjoys a cool, maritime-influenced climate thanks to its elevation and the Southern Ocean air that drifts in from the coast. It is one of five subregions that make up Australia's Great Southern, the world's largest and most isolated wine region. The soils are varied and complex, and the community is about as far from the fast lane as wine gets. Porongurup wines tend to reflect all of that; they’re honest, quietly distinctive, and worth seeking out.
Our
Namesake
We are named after an 1850s stone hut found in ruins on our property. Built of local, honey-coloured sandstone, the hut was used by shepherds as shelter while grazing their flocks along the Kalgan River.
All of our wines are made from grapes grown right here, at Shepherd’s Hut.
